Alagi Jallow alagiyorro@yahoo.com Alagi Yorro Jallow, a 2007 Nieman Fellow, was cofounder and managing editor of the Independent Newspaper in the Gambia until the staff was arrested and the offices closed in May 2005. In that year he was given an International Press Freedom Award by the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression. He is also the recipient of the Human Rights Watch Hellman/Hammett award. Jallow has lived in exile in the U.S. since 2005 and is now a Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellow at the national Endowment for Democracy in Washington, DC. |
